Horseradish Powder

Truth in advertising -- this product contains neither horse nor radish. Horseradish powder is the ground root of the horseradish plant. When ground, this root releases mustard oils that irritate the mucus membranes of mammals. This gives the spice the deserved reputation of "clearing the sinuses." You will know if you like horseradish.
 
Horseradish and radish belong to the same plant family but are more kissing cousins than siblings. Wasabi is also in this family, and horseradish is often used as a substitute for wasabi (which has become rare.) Use this powder to make wasabi, or mix it with vinegar to create traditional horseradish sauce for your roast beef! However, you use it, have a tissue around for those watering eyes! This is potent stuff!
